DESCRIPTION

Langley Community Music School (LCMS)  is located beside City Park in central Langely, BC. A beautiful modern building in a wonderful, easy-to-access location gives the school a great overall inspirational setting for the instructors and students..
LCMS has been providing music lessons and concerts to the local community for nearly fifty years when they realized that it was time to update their brand identity and a shiny new website that will make it easier for them to manage and update.

CHALLENGE

The biggest challenge of bringing LCMS into the 21st century was to examine the school’s history, how they started, where they came from, their original vision, and cross-examine that with the questionnaire that was formulated specifically for this project.

We were told early on that the long-sitting board of directors was going to need some convincing to move along with the new brand identity update. The original logo was created by a former board member and they had a sense of duty to make sure that the history of the school and the original logo wasn’t going to be forgotten or lost during this important transition.

SOLUTION

Fabmedia Studios was brought into the project from the very beginning, along with Veronica Harms Designs, by our close friend and fellow designer David Ediger. Having all worked together many times before, on other projects, LCMS allowed us to efficiently come together, gel immediately, and get down straight to business.

LCMS has a multitude of different areas of the school: teaching students during the regular school year; summer intensive programmes; teacher training; concerts and events; and music festivals. This became the basis for the overall concept of the logo and as well as how we approached the photography and the website.

OUTCOME

As the Board of Directors were reviewing the new brand design for LCMS at a general meeting, we made sure to inform them of our research, how best to implement the new logo, and that the key was to document the history of the school and its original logo and make it available on new website to honor the legacy of LCMS. This put all of their concerns to rest and allowed the school to adopt a new updated logo that allows LCMS to move forward into the 21st century with a new brand direction.

This project was successful because we worked closely with Carolyn Graham, the assistant principal, her assistant, and the administration of the school. Our design partnership with Veronica and David, along with the clients’, lead to everyone’s success.
